Events are divided into five parts: meetings, buying and selling (including our very popular auctions, competitions, library, and social activities. See the calendar for a full listing of forthcoming events, or read about the different types of events below.
Meetings are the lifeblood of any Society and Amersham is no different. We meet fortnightly on Thursdays from mid-September to the end of May, one meeting in June and then a summer recess. All meetings are in the Barn Hall at Amersham Community Centre, Chiltern Avenue, Amersham-on-the-Hill HP6 5AH. Click here for a map. Doors open at 7.00pm with the main event starting at 7.30pm leaving half an hour for members to conduct informal business. With a break for (free) coffee and biscuits meetings usually end at around 9.30pm.
Meetings are varied in nature, some have invited speakers - many pre-eminent in their field - others are simple members' evenings when we show each other pages from our collections. Also as a vital part of relationships between philatelists around the region we organize visits to other local Societies, and they in return visit us
Amersham Philatelic Society has a thriving exchange packet circuit in which all members are entitled to take part, as buyers, sellers or both. Material on offer will suit both beginner and advanced collector with stamps at a fraction of SG catalogue from the odd penny or two upwards.
In addition regular auctions and bourses (trading evenings of a 'bring & buy' nature) are held and often form the high spots of a season.
Three or four times a year we hold AUCTIONS. Auction catalogues are sent to members - and others who request one - and you'll also find our next catalogue and a postal-bid form on this website from about three weeks prior to the action date and also the realisations for the most recent ones in the past.
If you are not a member of the Society you are welcome to bid in our auctions but, as this is a private(club)auction, we will require you to become a temporary Associate Member of the Society (for the duration of the auction). By placing a bid you signify that you agree to become a temporary Associate Member and a small fee (20p) will be added to your invoice should you be successful in any of your bids.
The Amersham Society provides the opportunity for members who wish to advance their study of philately to enter competitions both at the Club and higher levels. In addition, the Society holds rather more light-hearted competition evenings through the season.
Current catalogues are held for members' benefit, these being available on free-loan.
We also have a Signoscope watermark detector and a UV lamp, both of which are available on free-loan to members.
We ask that members make arrangements from the Librarian to collect and return library items, we cannot deliver or post them.
We hold a luncheon each year for members and partners at an excellent restaurant in Amersham run by an Italian stamp collector! Naturally at this, apart from our enjoying some excellent food, the conversation is anything but stamps. Surprising as it may seem philatelists do have small-talk not involving little bits of paper!
We are affiliated to the Middlesex Philatelic Federation and to the Association of British Philatelic Societies and our members are individual Associate Members of ABPS which brings with it discount benefits on philatelic related items.
