About 24 packets circulate each year to about 70 members on the rota giving ample opportunity to add to collections at a fraction of SG catalogue price
Members who are able to forward the packet by hand are encouraged to join the packet circuit. Owing to the high insurance premiums and the insurers' restrictions that attach to postal sending of packets we very much regret that we cannot accept members onto the rota who have to take the packet by post. The circuit is divided into five sections and one section takes first-pick at any new packet - the priority section changes with each packet so that members don't always get 'dog-eared' packets near to the completion of the rota!
Since usually only four out of five sections receive any given packet you will expect to receive on average a packet every three weeks. The packet rules are simple but precise.
Any member may make up booklets to go into packets. Blank booklets are available from the Packet Secretary at a cost of 20p each but you are welcome to make up your own provided the size is not greater than 200mm x 127mm (8" x 5"). Non-members may submit booklets on the condition that they first obtain agreement from the Packet Secretary then submit one or two booklets for evaluation, which if accepted will be circulated. Subject to satisfactory results the packet Secretary will then be pleased to receive further booklets.
The Society's commission rate on sales is 10%
The Society will insure your material for the declared selling value from the time it receives a booklet to the time that you receive back the circulated booklet. The commission rate is 1% of the declared selling value. Vendors who do not wish to take advantage of the Society's insurance must notify the Packet Secretary and then they do submit material entirely at their own risk.
