As a new member of the Amersham & District Philatelic Society or as a prospective member you'll find a warm welcome awaits. Whether you be beginner or expert we're sure you'll find a stimulating environment in which you can develop your hobby.
In the days, long before the Turbo trains from Marylebone and even before the original DMUs some commuters found they had a common interest - the collecting of postage stamps. Two put up a display at an Hobbies Exhibition at Amersham Community Centre in the Autumn of 1958 and as a result of the interest shown nine people attended a meeting called subsequently to form a Society to be known as 'The Amersham & District Philatelic Society'. With our 50th anniversary now approaching us, one of those founding members is still going strong and we are well placed to promote stamp collecting as an absorbing hobby for the 21st century.
To share the pleasure of the hobby of philately, a hobby which is both pleasurable and mind-broadening and to promote it to the best of our abilities. To meet with like-minded persons to improve our understanding of postage stamps, postal and related material.
Catholic is perhaps the most appropriate word to apply. Not only do we have collectors of all abilities in the society but collectors of all tastes too:
Postal History
Thematics
Postcards
Postal Stationery
Social Philately
Cinderellas
Aero and Maritime Philately
And, of course, we have members who collect postage stamps too - from all corners of the world.
You'll be sure to find at least one member with similar interests to yours and if you need help then the Secretary keeps a register of members' interests and their membership of Specialist Societies.
